our commitment to direct trade & farmer relationships
At kawaida, we believe that great coffee starts with meaningful relationships.
That’s why we’re committed to direct trade. We work closely with coffee farmers across East Africa to ensure quality, transparency, and fair compensation. By sourcing our beans directly from producers, we not only support sustainable farming practices but also build long-term partnerships rooted in trust and mutual respect.
Working together with Stean’s Beans we are able to source up to 60% of a single harvest, maximising impact at origin. This approach allows us to deliver exceptional coffees while contributing to the economic empowerment of farming communities.
our Kenyan coffee
Our Kenyan coffee is sourced from the Kamavindi Estate, owned by the Mbature family.
As a third-generation family farm, their dedication to excellence and innovation is unmatched. Their meticulous attention to detail and progressive quality practices result in a coffee that reflects their passion, offering a beautiful blend of syrupy sweetness with vibrant notes of citrus and blackberry.
our Rwandan coffee
In Rwanda’s scenic Kivu Belt region, we partner with the Liza Coffee Washing Station, run by Jean Paul and his wife, Pacifique Uwicyeza.
Working with 1,850 local farmers, they oversee a careful process of sorting, washing, and fermentation, followed by an extended drying period of 48 to 54 days. The result is a refined coffee with bright orange acidity, peachy sweetness, raisin cookie notes, and cocoa, an embodiment of dedication, sustainability, and craftsmanship.
